It might be 2017 but body hair on women is still considered a dirty taboo by many. Over the course of our lives most of us will spend thousand of rand on getting rid of it, whether it’s shaving, waxing or lasering. There’s plenty of pressure to be silky smooth at all times.
Personally, I’m of the school of thought that if hair is growing from our bodies it’s because it’s meant to be there. That doesn’t stop me, however, from making sure that when I wear a sleeveless top I am at least somewhat shaved under my arms. I try to convince myself that it’s more for the benefit of others, rather than me (I’m thoughtful like that). But if I am being 100% honest, it’s because I’d rather forego the comments and stares.
