Let me introduce myself. I’m Candice Wyatt-Minter of Wyatt Hairdressing and Barbering in Johannesburg. We are an environmentally friendly hair salon, which doesn’t mean that we are hippies – we are one of Jozi’s leading salons when it comes to trend forecasting.

So how does a hair salon manage to stay environmentally friendly? We use an Italian hair product called Davines, which has a zero impact on the environment; we don’t waste water or electricity; we recycle; we use products that last and we use iPads  to download all our favourite magazines.

We try to keep things as low-impact on the environment as possible. And here’s how you can too:

Once your strenuous week is over, why not draw a long bath, light a few candles, switch off your geyser and all your lights, and then indulge in some quiet time with all your wonderful beauty products that you don’t usually have time to use.

First, shampoo your scalp, then rinse. Secondly, shampoo your mid-lengths and ends. Then towel dry your hair – this prevents your treatment from diluting.

Then, working from your tips to your scalp, apply a moisturizing treatment conditioner, like Davines Vegetarian Miracle. While your treatment is processing, now is a good time to exfoliate your skin and apply a face mask. After 15 minutes or more, rinse and get ready to style!

Since it is a low-impact night, here’s how to style hair without the use of any heat.

What you’ll need:

– A large headband

– A comb

– Styling oil

Start by towel drying your hair well and apply a styling oil. Comb your hair flat and place the headband over your head and along your forehead. Starting from the front , loop a section of hair around the headband. Add more hair and loop through the headband again, continue until you have no more hair left to style. Then put on your PJs and go to bed. In the morning you will have the most glorious waves!

Here is a great YouTube tutorial (but excuse the dodge music):

Until next week!
