Eyelashes are able to take your makeup from a solid 5 to a good 10, and can make you look wide awake even if you have literally only closed your eyes to sneeze. A good mascara can do wonders, but some of us like to take it up a notch and really get the volume and texture that will make their eyelashes stand out. This is where strip eyelashes and eyelashe extensions come in, and we are here to give you all you need to know when deciding which would work best for you.

Strip eyelashes are store-bought eyelashes that can be placed on top of your eyelashes in order to create an illusion of volume, length or texture. These eyelashes often come with an eyelash adhesive, which is used to stick the strip of eyelash hairs onto your eyelid just above your own eyelashes. The adhesive can be removed easily by simply pulling off the lashes or applying water to the adhesive. Eyelash extensions, on the other hand, create a more natural look as the extensions are added to each individual eyelash, which makes the extensions less noticeable

Although eyelash extensions and strip eyelashes have many similarities in terms of what they do for you eyelashes, here are a few things to consider:

Applying your strip eyelashes requires having eyelash adhesive (which often comes with the strip eyelashes), and the patience to sit and play around with the eyelashes until they sit neatly on your lashes. Learning to apply strip lashes takes time, but once you get the hang of it, it will take you less than five minutes to apply them to both eyes. Eyelash extensions take a much longer time to apply but can last longer. Many women choose to go to a professional to apply their lashes but there is the option to buy individual lashes and apply them yourself. Both of these options, however, can take you upwards of two hours to complete.

Strip eyelashes are significantly cheaper than eyelash extensions. Strip eyelashes can be as cheap as R30 a pair, which is not too much compared to getting your eyelashes professionally done (upwards of R300). This price may seem steep, but it is important to consider that the application process takes about two hours, the extensions are being applied by a professional and will last longer than strip lashes.

Although strip lashes are very affordable, versatile and easy to apply, it is important to consider that they will not withstand things like harsh winds, swimming, and pretty much anything that involves sweating or contact with liquids. Strip lashes also need to be removed before you go to sleep to avoid things like eye infections. The adhesive used to attached eyelash extensions also has the potential to irritate the eyes and cause an allergic reaction in some cases.

It is important to weigh up the pros and cons and ultimately choose what works best for you and your lifestyle. Once you’ve made your decision, you will be well on your way to some gorgeous-looking eyelashes!
