With the festive season comes extravagant events and parties – and with an open bar comes a dreaded hangover… If you can’t spend a hungover day on the couch carbo-loading because you have to be at work, we have some tips on how to look good even when you don’t feel it.
- Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate
First things first: drink water. It should go without saying but this is the absolute best thing you can to address your parched, dry skin and to ensure you stay hydrated from the inside out. Make sure to also hydrate from the outside with a creamy moisturiser. Moisturising ingredients like glycerin and squalane, as well as natural oils like avocado and olive fruit, will give your skin that dose of hydration it’s been longing for and bring it back to life.
2. Keep spritzing that facial mist
A generous spray of a hydrating, energising facial mist is another great way to revive your complexion and give you that “I got 10 hours of sleep last night” glow.
3. The frozen spoon trick
After a big night out, we tend to wake up with puffy/swollen eyes. To help reduce puffy eyes, place a spoon in the freezer until it gets cold and then press it directly over your eyes. The cold metal will tighten the skin around your eyes and help reduce puffiness.
4. Use an eye brightening cream
Pat a brightening eye cream underneath your eyes to help give swollen, tired looking eyes the boost they need to fake a good night’s rest.
5. Conceal the evidence
A hangover can cause dark circles to be more visible and unfortunately there is no magic cure for dark circles. But fortunately there is a way to hide them and make it a little less obvious; this can be achieved by using a concealer. Choose a creamy formula with a yellow undertone and apply it to the under eye area. Set the concealer with translucent powder to minimise the chance of creasing.
6. Blush it up
Tired, hungover skin doesn’t look radiant and youthful. An easy fix is to apply a creamy blush to the apples of the cheeks to bring some colour and rosiness back into the skin, making you look more fresh and awake, as if you went for that 30 minute jog this morning that you always say you should go do.
7. Create a distraction
With a pounding headache and nauseous tummy it may be hard to pinpoint exactly what part of you needs to be treated, in this case we suggest using a distraction. Apply a bright coloured lipstick or bold liner to your beauty regimen that morning and who will even notice you were out all night!
8. Mask it
Another quick fix is to apply a hydrating mask before beginning to get ready for the very long day ahead. This will help restore some much needed moisture back into the skin and it only takes a few minutes.
