Update 28/09: A week since his initial statement regarding his divorce from Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt has released a second statement via Access Hollywood about his upcoming film Voyage of Time, and his divorce.

Pitt wrote the statement to explain that he would not be doing any red carpet appearances or promotion of the film, because of what his family is currently going through. He said that he feels the divorce news would distract from the film.

‘Terrence’s Voyage of Time is an incredibly beautiful and unique experiential IMAX film for children and families chronicling the birth of time,” he said. “I’m very grateful to be part of such a fascinating and educational project, but I’m currently focused on my family situation and don’t want to distract attention away from this extraordinary film, which I encourage everyone to see,’ he wrote.

He has not commented on the child abuse allegations that are reportedly being investigated by the FBI, after an incident between Pitt and one of his children.

Update 26/09: The world was shocked last week when news broke that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were divorcing, but according to People, sources close to the couple say the split has been a long time coming. Jolie and Pitt had been together for 12 years and married for two when Jolie filed for divorce.

‘Things built and built over time–it wasn’t any one thing,” a source close to Jolie told People. “She’s loved this man for several years, and [divorce] is not something you do impulsively.’

Sources on Pitt’s side agree that the couple have been struggling for a while.

‘There was clearly a breaking point, where she’d just had enough,’ the Pitt source told People. ‘He may have been broken himself and said he couldn’t go on, and she reacted. This has been difficult for a while.’

The final straw seems to have been an incident on a plane, in which Pitt was allegedly verbally abusive and physical with one of the couple’s six children (15-year-old Maddox, according tomultiple reports). People confirmed last week that Pitt was under investigation for child abuse by the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services.

According to Vanity Fair, both actors have issued statements requesting privacy for their family during this difficult time.

Update 22/09: TMZ is now claiming that the case against Brad Pitt has been referred to the FBI, as LAPD “did not have jurisdiction because the alleged incident occurred in the air, on a flight from France to the U.S.” And the saga continues…

Update 22/09: Despite earlier reports, the LAPD has issued a statement saying they are “not handling any report or allegations into child abuse for Mr. Brad Pitt.” Officer Jenny Houseradds, “The child abuse unit with LAPD has no open investigation on Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie.”

Amara Suarez, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, issued a statement that the organization “can’t confirm or deny the subjects of our investigations due to confidentiality laws.”

Update: 22/09: Following news that Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, TMZ reports that the actor is being investigated by the LAPD and L.A. County Dept. of Children and Family Services for child abuse.

Pitt was allegedly verbally and physically abusive with his children while on a flight last Wednesday, when he was drunk on a private jet: “He allegedly went wild, screaming and getting physical with the kids.”

The plane reportedly landed at 8 p.m. and Pitt continued to show signs of anger on the tarmac. At this point, someone reported him to the department of Children and Family Services, who are said to have already interviewed the couple, and plan to interview the kids.

TMZ cites the investigation as “ongoing,” and a source close to Pitt tells them, “He takes the matter very seriously and says he did not commit any abuse of his children. It’s unfortunate that people involved are continuing to present him in the worst possible light.”

The incident was allegedly the catalyst for Jolie’s divorce filing, which took place a few days later. You can read her statement here, and Pitt’s statement here.

Update: 22/09 Since the announcement that Angelina Jolie has filed divorce from Brad Pitt was made on Monday, rumours have swirled that the reason for the split is that Brad had an affair with his Allied co-star Marion Cotillard.

Last night, Marion addressed the rumours in an Instagram post. She started by confirming that she is very happy with her partner Guillaume Canet and that they are expecting their second child together. She ended the post by saying, ‘I do very much wish that Angelina and Brad, both whom I deeply respect, will find peace in this very tumultuous moment.’

This is going to be my first and only reaction to the whirlwind news that broke 24 hours ago and that I was swept up into. I am not used to commenting on things like this nor taking them seriously but as this situation is spiraling and affecting people I love, I have to speak up. Firstly, many years ago, I met the man of my life, father of our son and of the baby we are expecting. He is my love, my best friend, the only one that I need. Secondly to those who have indicated that I am devastated, I am very well thank you. This crafted conversation isn’t distressing. And to all the media and the haters who are quick to pass judgment, I sincerely wish you a swift recovery. Finally, I do very much wish that Angelina and Brad, both whom I deeply respect, will find peace in this very tumultuous moment. Marion

21/09: Following the news that Angelina Jolie Pitt and Brad Pitt are getting a divorce, Brad has issued a statement via People:

‘I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.’

The statement follows Angelina’s own, via her lawyer, and echoes her own sentiments: ;This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time,’ attorney Robert Offer said.

20/09: 2016 seems to be the year that just keeps taking and taking from us.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are yet another Hollywood couple that we’ll have to remove from our mental Pinterest board of #couplegoals. According to TMZ, Ang has filed for divorce from after 12 years of being with Brad Pitt.

She apparently filed the papers on Monday, citing irreconcilable differences and asking for physical custody of the couple’s six children. This means that Brad would only have legal custodianship and visitation rights.

Of course, the rumour mill is already in overdrive, and a mysterious ‘source’ has suggested that Angelina was unhappy with Brad’s parenting methods.

Whatever the reason, we’ll just be over here sobbing trying to tell ourselves love isn’t dead…
