Our local faves did us proud and represented South Africa at the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park, New York City, on Saturday. We saw Bonang Matheba, Nandi Madida, Nomzamo Mbatha and many others looking flawless on the red carpet – see their looks below.

Despite an expected barrier collapse at the event, the audience of around 60 000 spectators was unharmed and enjoyed performances by big international names such as John Legend, Cardi B, Janet Jackson and Coldplay.

Other local stars in attendance included Pearl Thusi, Maps Maponyane, Kweku Mandela (grandson of Nelson Mandela) and Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka (executive director of UN Women). Here are some of our favourite red-carpet looks from the evening:

Pearl Thusi hit the right note between casual and glam with her denims and very extra jacket.

Bonang Matheba went incognito in a red leather cap and matching blazer.

Nomzamo Mbatha went for a mixture of warm colours – we love this figure-hugging dress in orange.

On the stage, artist Sho Madjozi gave us a taste of what to expect this summer at the South African iteration of Global Citizen with her explosive performance. TV sensation and MC, Bonang Matheba, was quoted introducing the artist as ‘one of the most exciting voices on the rap scene today’.

We are so proud of our stars showcasing their talent in Central Park this past weekend, and we cannot wait for the Global Citizen Festival to hit South Africa in December. The stellar line-up has generated lots of excitement. It includes our queen Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Ed Sheeran, Cassper Nyovest, D’banj, Pharrel Williams and many other top artists. They will be performing at the FBN Stadium in Johannesburg in honour of former president Nelson Mandela.
