A little while ago, I gingerly tested out the fashion-waters and started wearing a moon-bag/fanny-pack on the odd occasion. After I was convinced that this accessory was one of the best things to come out of 2017, I wrote an article on how brilliant and functional they are. Which is totally the best thing about them. Well that, and also how they’re super stylish and have been seen on many people including models such as Kylie Jenner, Bella Hadid and Adwoa Aboah.
Maybe the celebs are so drawn to this bag because they can use both hands to fan off the paps. While Mel C chose to use hers more as a belt (still needing an extra handbag?!), Anne Hathaway opted for a leopard-print option, and Fergie went with the classic Chanel quilted bag worn around her waist.
Searching the internet for the most fashionable ways to wear a fanny pack, I was surprised to see that there are in fact so many, and some don’t even require buying an actual moonbag, but rather fashioning out of your already existing handbag.
And if your handbag strap is too long, simply double it around your waist. This adds further dimension to your bag and outfit.
Another added bonus is that they can be used as belt (like Mel C) with the strap held in place by your belt-loops. Let us take this opportunity to again tell you how they’re simply the best.
Traditionally, moon bags have been used at music festivals, due to their accessibility on the move and the fact that you can hold your drink and also not worry about being pick-pocketed. At a festival you can have a little fun with how bold your bag is, choosing printed or embellished variations.
If you’re still not convinced, take a look at how moon bags not only add to your outfit but also greatly increase the efficiency of your daily tasks, allowing you to do anything you wish without an enormous handbag in the way. Choose a size that works for your needs, whether that’s a tiny bag or multiple-pocket bag, or even a belt with multiple bags on it!
You can also choose a bright one, which can contrast the rest of your look, adding a pop of colour.
Not only for wearing around the waist, they can be worn neatly tucked under your arm across your body.
And lastly, if you’re the fancy type, the latest trend is to wear a name-brand bag as a fanny pack. It’s like taking all the seriousness of a Chanel bag and adding just a little bit of fun!
