I know the pantone colour of the year is ultra violet, but there’s another colour that’s having a major fashion moment this season. As we start preparing for transitional dressing, the colour we should all have in our cupboards is bottle green – an umbrella label for dark shades of green such as British racing green, Brunswick green, Cal Poly green, or Castleton green. Yes, I used their actual shade names because Miranda Priestly did not give us the ultimate drag when she schooled Andrea on her cerulean sweater for me to simply call a colour ‘bottle green’ 12 years later.

Although I don’t necessarily have a favourite colour, I’m particularly drawn to this colour for the instant ‘I look and feel like money’ factor it adds to any get-up. Much like black, it can be worn with almost any other colour and it’s just as slimming (for those who love a good optical illusion) as black. It’s no wonder there are just as many outfit variations (if not more) to try out as there are shades of this deep green.

So before you go shopping for your essential Brunswick green items, make sure you have the shoes to match every mood:

1. Soft fabrics and heels

Mood: Classic and feminine

A silk/satin/chiffon outfit needs a remarkable, yet understated pair of heels to culminate in an ultra feminine chic look.

2. Velvet and kicks

Mood: Laid back

Embrace the athleisure trend and sport a J Lo-meets-Missy ‘fit. Puma has just released a range of edgy kicks illustrated by Shantell Martin that you can dress up or down, probably making Puma the quintessential sneaker brand right now. So it only makes sense to pair shoes of the moment with a colour of the moment.

3. Faux fur and dad sneakers

Mood: Nostalgic

What is the one item of clothing all moms adore? Faux fur. And what is the one trend all dads just refuse to let go of? Wearing trainers with everything. Now why not combine these two parent essentials for a day out on the streets? It’s the standout look you didn’t know you needed until now.

Forget the mall and online shopping, the best place to find faux fur gems is a thrift store.
