Paris Haute Couture Autumn/Winter ’18 Fashion Week is currently underway. Christian Dior, Givenchy and Iris van Herpen, among other fashion houses, are showing, and they’re serving luxurious autumn/winter collections to absolutely die for.

‘Wintour is coming’ is the current mood above the equator right now. However, sun-kissed attendees are still revelling in the sartorial freedom the warmer seasons allow, giving us double-tap-worthy street-style looks. Winter’s wrath is inescapable in South Africa at the moment, but that doesn’t mean we can’t use all this Paris street-style inspo to dress vicariously.

Here are seven key spring trends we’re eyeing.

1.Head-to-toe pink

Fashion is no longer shying away from overt femininity, which is why more people are embracing dramatic ruffles, romantic fabrics and all shades of pink.

2. Utility (breast) pockets

These were great for Lip Ice, tuck money and tampons during our school-uniform days, and it looks like they’re finally having a moment in the world of fashion. (Can’t wait to put my bank card in one of these pockets and forget I put it in there when I wear something different the next day.) Oh, and it seems this look is a winner when styled in a head-to-toe hue.

3. Basket bags

Basket bags established themselves as a must-have ‘it’ item last summer already, so it’s safe to say they’re here to stay. Rumour has it you can even purchase one of these babies at a very reasonable price at a local market (well, not this ice cream cone, though).

4. Layered dresses

There’s no fun in just putting on a dress and a pair of shoes – play around a little and make your dresses more versatile and dynamic. For example, this pleated ensemble here: is it a skirt, or is it a dress under an oversized shirt? There’s no telling, and that’s the point.

5. White tank tee

Simple, easy, and low-key chic. And if it’s good enough for the streets of Paris, then it’s good enough for spring/summer in Mzansi.

6. Mid heels

Skyscrapers are for red-carpet affairs and evening soirees. Mid-heel shoes are for every day, so stock up.

7. Bardot double-breasted blazers

I know we reluctantly parted ways with our Bardot tops/dresses earlier this year because honestly, we wore them ad nauseum in 2017. However, the Bardot blazer still has some street cred, so it might be worthwhile investing in one this coming season.

Come spring, we’ll all have curated wardrobes to chose OOTDs from, thanks to these fashion-week attendees and off-duty models.
