There are some trends that come and go, and then there are others that stick around for a couple of seasons – which we don’t mind in the least because it simply means we’re one or two steps ahead. So, before you detox your wardrobe, let’s confirm some of 2017’s most popular trends that are guaranteed to make appearances in 2018.
What a popular colour this has been. We’d go as far as to say that it may very well be the colour of 2017, but before you think it’s bowing out, hold on to all your Millennial and blush-pink pieces for early and late 2018, while hotter/neon pinks have a moment in winter.
Nope, not the polkadot kind (although look out for that come winter next year), but rather accessories, particularly round bags, bags with round handles and belts with round buckles – a hit all year round in 2017.
Speaking of circles, this one’s probably not that surprising, as it’s a classic, but it has exploded over the last couple of months as the only earring to wear (well almost). We’re happy to report that it’s about time to (if you haven’t already) invest in a pair that’ll last longer than just one season, as you’ll be wearing them all the way through to summer at the end of next year.
Prints for any season are pretty obvious, but let’s get specific about the ones we probably have in our wardrobes:
Florals are just NOT budging and are back in bold sizes and colours, as well as dainty and moody (think boho), until the end of winter in 2018. They will take a softer, more pastel turn in summer 2018. If this print makes you yawn, look to pieces other than a dress, like a jumpsuit or jumper to freshen it up.
Vintage graphics (think retro wallpaper) from summer 2017 will make their way back in winter 2018 – so keep them.
Checks and grid-like prints have been very popular this year. Grids will continue into winter next year, while check gets a slight makeover as they are reinvented as sheer separates in late 2018.
TIP: Go a step further in the first half of 2018 and continue to mix all the above together for your own interpretation of a collage.
From hats and lips to shoes and everything in between, red has fired up many a wardrobe this year. You’ll be happy to know that it will be sticking around for the whole of 2018 – a hot investment.
6. THE PUFFER
The puffer jacket became the cover-up of the season earlier this year, with Balenciaga encouraging us to scoop it off our shoulders (thank goodness, because temperatures don’t drop too low on this side of the equator), and you’ll be happy to know that the storage space will be worth cornering off for your most loved puffer, because it’ll be back for round two in 2018.
7. WHITE ACCESSORIES
Remember that chat we had about white boots in winter? Well, we hope you’ve kept them clean, because they’re once again the favourite shade of next year. It also looks like white boots have started their own trend within their group of accessory friends, because bags and sunglasses have caught on too.
This trend is still on the rise, so expect berets and retro caps to become more available. Good on you for getting your hands on one early, and if you didn’t, don’t stress. It’ll be back next year and will stick around… all year actually.
