The first race we see at the GH Mumm Sun Met is always the one on the red carpet, where celebrities and elites compete for ‘best dressed’.

Themed ‘Style Ahead of the Field’, this year’s Sun Met saw attendees celebrating African culture through glamorous combinations of printed fabrics and beaded accessories. Many of our local TV personalities were dressed by South African designers, proudly talking about how they collaborated on what the day’s look would be based on their respective interpretations of the theme.

Many of the outfits this year were very glamorous, but not directly related to the theme. We’re not complaining (too much) because the celebs still managed to wow on the red carpet and on social media.

Here are all our favourite looks from the day:

The day’s MC, Minnie, incorporated the theme into her beauty look.

And we also ran into last year’s best dressed couple at the Met, Abongwe Qokela and model Anesu Chogugudza:

Overall it was clear that Sun Met 2018 attendees put a lot of thought into their outfits for the day, as there was plenty to marvel at.
