From royalty to rockstars, we are revisiting some of the most iconic wedding dresses of all time.
1. The most iconic
Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier of Monaco, 1956
Straight out of a movie: famous American actress meets Monaco’s prince and they fall in love. Designed by Helen Rose, the dress came as a gift from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer to the famous star and gave a new meaning to the word icon. The high-necked, long-sleeved dress, with a long, billowing skirt and a the three-metre train was for for a princess.
2. The most unconventional
Bianca and Mick Jagger, 1971
When we think of unconventional weddings, Bianca and Mick Jagger come to mind. The bride opted for an unusual white, smocked, YSL jacket. She wore it with nothing underneath, over a floating maxi skirt. At the time of her wedding, Bianca was four months pregnant and the shirt she intended to wear underneath her jacket no longer fit. Instead, she opted for a bare chest and deep cleavage. As a true non-conformist Mick Jagger wore a green suit and sneakers.
3. The most celebrated
Princess Diana and Prince Charles, 1981
The wedding of the century came the day when Lady Diana Spencer became Diana, Princess of Wales. Princess Diana’s gorgeous train was a whopping seven-and-a-half metres long and included more than 10 000 pearls. It is estimated that on the day, 750 million people watched the wedding worldwide.
3. The most fairytale
Alexis Ohanian and Serena Williams, 2017
Serena Williams’ marriage to Alexis Ohanian was a fairytale come true. Her dress was designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. The traditional cinderella-style gown added to the magical feel of the day.
4. The most secretive
The Duke and Duchesse of Cambridge, 2011
As the Duke and Duchess are about to celebrate their seventh wedding anniversary, we have decided to revisit one of the most iconic and secretive wedding days of our time. Throughout their six-month engagement, the designer of Kate’s wedding dress was kept a secret, leading to intense global speculation. Sarah Burton designed the now very famous dress, and she was sworn to secrecy by the palace. The embroiderers, who crafted the lace on Kate’s dress, were told that it was going to be used in a television costume drama. The designer was only revealed on the day of the wedding as Kate was making her entrance into the Abbey.
6. The most intimate
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, 2014

For her wedding day Angelina Jolie chose to wear a couture wedding dress designed by Luigi Massi of Atelier Versace. Nothing unusual so far, the custom-designed ivory dress featuring elegant spaghetti straps and a ruched bodice revealed a surprising addition in the back. The dress was covered with multicolored drawings of Jolie and Pitt’s six children, embroidered onto the gown. A very moving touch to that beautiful wedding including a short list of just 22 guests.
7. The most inspirational
Solange Knowles and Alan Ferguson, 2014
When only the bride is supposed to wear white Solange changes the game by asking her guests to wear white to the festivities too. That added an element of unity, making the guests feel like they were literally part of it all. It didn’t stop there, where instead of a regular car, using bicycles as their wedding mode of transport proved once more that Solange is not one to follow rules.
