Podcasts have revolutionised the airwaves by saving us from the frustrations of limited radio stations, and opening up a world that will stimulate, inform, interest and understand us. Although still male-dominated, the number of female voices on air is increasing at an exciting rate.

We have compiled a list of five podcasts featuring female hosts who engage in relevant and stimulating conversations.

3. Call Your Girlfriend

Hosted by freelance journalist and self-proclaimed ‘pie chart artist’, Ann Friedman, and her best friend, entrepreneur Aminatou Sow, Call Your Girlfriend is a witty show that tackles current issues for women. The topics are framed in the context of pop culture and news stories. The drawcard of this podcast is that it will have you in hysterics while also making you think. 4. Man Repeller’s Oh Boy

Leandra Medina has earned herself a cult following with her website Man Repeller, a witty and quirky feminist fashion website. The Man Reppeller website recently launched a new Podcast called Oh Boy, which has hour-long segments featuring an influential woman in the creative industry. You can expect conversations about fashion, pop culture and social media. One particular segment to look out for is Leandra’s interview with the creator of the hit sitcom 2 Broke Girls, Whitney Cummings. The two powerhouse voices discuss topics that range from the artistry of Kim K’s book of selfies, to the importance of a fashion director’s job, and at some point, it seems someone even admits to being a narcissist. If you love fashion and enjoy a bit of candour, then this show will probably become your new obsession.

5. The Read

The Read is a humorous podcast that features a delightfully flippant hosting duo by the names of Kid Fury and Crissle. They have made it their duty to patrol the internet and call out celebrities who think it is okay to say and do whatever they please. Their most recent list of offenders includes TI, who recently decided to tell the world that he doesn’t believe a woman can be the president of the United States. Both hosts are homosexual, black and strong advocates for gender and racial equality. We can pretty much put a cash back guarantee that this podcast will have you in stitches, and is the perfect way to unwind and escape after a stressful day at work.
