David Beckham and Scotch whisky both get better age, and so we were understandably excited when he launched Haig in SA earlier this year. This single grain Scotch whisky has become synonymous with its distinctive blue bottle, and a ‘rooftop lounge kind of lifestyle’ we can get behind. With the festive season in full swing, we’re all about gifting. Here’s why we think Haig Club Clubman is the perfect gift for every occasion.
1. This Drink’s Got History
Haig Club Clubman is crafted at Cameronbridge distillery in Scotland (founded in 1824) and is made using a process that combines grain whisky from three cask types. This creates a fresh, clean style that showcases butterscotch and toffee for an ultra-smooth taste. The result is wonderfully smooth, sweet and enjoyable.
2. The bottle is beautiful
Haig Club Clubman’s iconic blue bottle with its copper closure speaks volumes about the brand’s inherent sense of sophistication. The glass bottle was inspired by the tradition of Haig Club’s blenders who used blue tasting glasses when reviewing the whisky so that the spirit can be reviewed on aroma and taste alone. The colour of the closure was inspired by the copper stills that were historically used to distil grain whisky. Such style.
3. A taste sublime
If you’re a Scotch lover, or know someone who is, this is an excellent gift. We love the way that Haig Club Clubman is layered. Its nose is a wonderful combination of sweet toffee, popcorn, coconut and butterscotch balanced by some zestier citrus notes and some crisp, green apple freshness. Its taste consists of hints of toffee, maple syrup, salted caramel and crème brûlée; it’s deliciously creamy. The finish is smooth and clean, with a lingering hint of cinnamon spice. Divine.
P.S. Add a citrusy twist to Haig Club Clubman by jazzing it up with tonic water (to taste) and garnishing with an orange slice. #HaigClubClubman retails at R299.99 and is available at all major liquor outlets countrywide.
Not for persons under the age of 18.
