A recent study conducted by the Office for National Statistics in the UK, revealed that more than half of millennials reported drinking no alcohol in the last week. Zilch, nada, nein!
A group of 16-24 year olds were polled against a group 45-64 year olds, regarding their alcohol intake, and the latter group’s consumption was at two-thirds, compared to the surprisingly low count of the young adults, who are constantly expected to be drunk all weekend, and hitting bars most week nights, according to The Guardian.
There is no singular reason for the sudden drop in boozy-late nights amongst the young crowd, but speculation suggest this new crop of conscious millennials, who are actively involved in social, political and economical issues are trading cocktails and shooters for purer forms of entertainment, such as exercise.
While dealing with current crises like climate change, unemployment and debt, millennials are more conscious of their health than before, and sacrificing a few bottles of champagne seems to be their answer. According to the study, when they do indulge in a little drink, they’re choosing the healthiest option on the menu; wine.
No crippling hangover, getting fit and saving money? Why haven’t we thought of this before?!
