I studied English and Psychology at UCT but I didn’t know what I wanted to do until, totally unexpectedly, I landed work experience on Condé Nast Traveller in the UK. I found the job of the Sub/Copy Editors fascinating and realised it was something I’d been doing all my life – editing and proofreading friends’ essays and theses had become a common occurrence at uni. Once I was inside Condé Nast UK I was determined to stay. I got work experience on World of Interiors, followed by more work experience with GQ UK. At this point I took a short course in Subediting and one in InDesign. My first freelance job was with Company magazine at National Magazines UK. This was followed by more paid work with Condé Nast Brides and again at GQ. I landed a full-time job with Men’s Health UK where I stayed (for a year) until I decided to come to GQ SA in Cape Town. After just eight months there, Marie Claire rang and asked me to apply for the position of Copy Editor. Best call I ever got! Love what I do.
