Actress, theatre director and Revlon’s first ambassador with albinism – Michelle Mosalakae is an inspiration to many. The star’s breakout role on Isibaya in 2017 has propelled her to South African A-list celebrity status within just one year of hitting the scene. As one of Marie Claire’s 2018 #DearBody New Naked campaign muses, she wrote a letter about learning acceptance for lumps, bumps and everything else that makes her body perfect.

Dear Body,

I’m learning to accept you. I know this might be difficult for you to hear, because you’ve always accepted me, supported me and stood by me through everything. The world sometimes makes me question your loyalty and I often get so upset at myself for allowing it. You’ve been my shield and my protection from the time I was developed inside my mother’s womb.

Our journey is beautiful. Not because it’s smooth, but because it’s perfectly printed with ups and downs and crazy fluctuations that make me want to understand you more. As I begin to clear the clutter from my mind that has built up from years of looking at adulterated images of women all over the internet, I begin to see and understand you better. I now look at you in the mirror, even with your lumps and bumps, and think to myself that you are perfect just the way you are. I’m learning to accept you.

Michelle

#DearBody, You’ve been my shield and my protection since I was inside my mother’s womb. Our journey is not smooth, but it’s beautiful. I now look at you in the mirror, even with your lumps and bumps, and think to myself – you are perfect just the way you are…..I’m learning to accept you. This year I was a part of Marie Claire’s New Naked campaign, and I wrote this letter to my body. As women we are continuously critiquing ourselves… it’s difficult these days to be happy with what you have. This was definitely one of the scariest most empowering experiences of my life. This therapeutic process made me realize that there is so much to be grateful for when it comes to my body and that my journey with my body is a lifelong one which has taught me so much about being a woman and being proud and making positive and healthy changes if I want to. I am so grateful for this campaign and what it has taught me about living BOLDLY and I hope that my bravery and that of the other women will make you take time to reflect on your relationship with your body.
