It’s that time of year again – time to dig out your Tricolore, don your finest reds, whites and blues and celebrate centuries-old French Huguenot heritage at one of our favourite events: the annual Franschhoek Bastille Festival. Now in its 20th year, this fabulous and fun-filled weekend is a great place to spend catching up with family and friends over an array of Franschhoek’s award-winning wines and sensational culinary delights by some of the Valley’s highly acclaimed chefs – all the while enjoying the splendid, picturesque surrounds of the Franschhoek Valley. Enter the exciting Food and Wine Marquee, the focal point of the festival, and relish in the sights, sounds and smells of Franschhoeks’ finest – wonder round the different stalls, offering anything from French-inspired cupcakes and gourmet sandwiches to oysters and gargantuan wheels of cheese, then fill up your glass and enjoy the music. And if sitting around eat and drinking is not for you, get involved in some of the awesome activities taking place, including boules, The Waiter’s Race, the Franschhoek Minstrel Parade and the popular barrel-rolling competition. Also worth a ‘wander around’ are the farmer’s markets and craft-market stalls. Worried about your kiddies? Plenty of children’s activities are on offer as well.

Head to to book tickets now before they sell out. The festival takes place from 13-14 July 2013; entrance to the Food and Wine Marquee costs R150 per person and includes a complimentary tasting glass and a booklet of tasting coupons. Additional coupons can be purchased on the day. Are you an avid wine enthusiast??
