There’s no denying that Crystal Renn is undoubtedly one of the best models in the business. Once the poster girl for ‘bigger girls’, she has completely transformed herself, slimming down tremendously. Last night, Crystal Renn showed off her, still curvy, but massive weight-loss, clad in a slinky gold dress at the opening night of the 2011 Metropolitan Opera Season in New York (below). Of course she looks absolutely gorgeous now, there’s no doubt about that, yet, the criticism she’s received from people both within and outside the modelling business have been overwhelming. Earlier this year she addressed some of the negative comments made about her transformation, insisting she is happy with the way she looks and denying she had been pressured into changing her appearance.

She said: ‘When this whole weight loss thing happened, I think that a lot of people wanted to point their finger at somebody. I think that they wanted to find a conspiracy where there absolutely was none. ‘A lot of people said the industry was pressuring me, my agency was pressuring me, I was pressuring me, but it was just not the case in all three cases.’ The issue people are having here is that they want to keep Crystal in a box that says, ‘Plus-sized model’, similar to the box they wanted put Sophie Dahl in. If Crystal was just a normal girl, who didn’t model, people would be giving her a tap on the back for slimming down. She doesn’t look unhealthy or anorexic, so why the big ruckus? People are allowed to evolve outside the boxes they are placed into. What do you think?
