Do you feel like your make-up routine needs a bit of a revamp? Well, it’s a new year and we can look forward to a host of exciting new beauty trends. Here’s what to expect… We’re getting started immediately!

1 All-inclusive make-up lines

The launch of Fenty Beauty last year really brought to light the struggle that many people have when it comes to finding the perfect shade of foundation. Rihanna’s products were an instant hit with people of all shades of the colour spectrum, so in 2018 we hope to see many more brands extend their ranges to be inclusive too. It’s about time.

2 Embracing body hair

For a long time, it’s been more-or-less expected of women that they remove their body hair. This year, however, people are going to be bucking this archaic convention and letting their hair grow. Why question Mother Nature, anyway?

3 Activism through nail art

2017 was a year of many causes, and the world is just getting started. One way people have started showing their solidarity is through their manicures, and this is set to be an even bigger trend in the upcoming year.

4 Electric eyes

While in many ways natural make-up is going to be the name of the beauty game this year, we still love a pop of colour. Brights, especially around the eye area, are going to be trending, so there’s no need to pack them away just yet. If you own any electric blues, greens, yellows and oranges, even better.

5 Facial oils for days

For a long time it was thought that putting oil on your face, especially if you have oily skin, would be a disaster. Now we know better, and people are getting behind this deeply nourishing skin trend in a major way. Expect to see more oils, suited to all skin types, in 2018.

6 Bring on the glitter

There was a lot of glitter popping up in our newsfeeds in 2017, and 2018 is set to sparkle even more, with more and more make-up brands jumping on this trend. We’re not sure about you, but we’re ready to keep on shimmering for as long as possible.

7 Innovative hair products

Shampoo and conditioner are passé. The real attention-getters in haircare this year are going to be new, innovative products that improve the condition of our hair in exciting new ways. From dry shampoo wipes to dry conditioner sprays and even hair scrubs – which help to remove scalp build-up – we’ll be sampling them all.

8 Fresh new faces

Gone are the days of ‘conventional’ models. Beauty brands have noticed that their buyers respond better to people who are more relatable (duh). This means that in 2018 we can expect to see more models like Slick Woods, Adwoa Aboah and Thando Hopa appearing in beauty campaigns. Because representation matters.
