Beauty trends come and go all the time. Some of them come and change our lives for the better (highlighter and microblading – you guys can stay) and some of them pass through our social media feeds because they are downright weird. A new trend on the scene – slugging – has the beauty community divided and devotees looking decidedly slimy.
So what exactly is slugging anyway? It is basically slathering copious amounts of Vaseline onto your face after you have performed your normal nighttime routine. This is meant to help lock in the serum and moisturiser so that they can do their magic while you sleep, leaving you with baby-soft skin in the morning (and looking like a slug before hitting the hay).
While most people would cringe at the thought of this practice (clogged pores, anyone?) more and more people are jumping on the slugging bandwagon. There is even a sub-reddit dedicated to it where people can get advice from others who love it.
But what do dermatologists think of this seemingly strange practice? Despite what you might think, they admit that it can help to retain moisture, which can benefit those who suffer from dry, flaky skin. We were shocked too.
So if you are one of those people whose skin suffers in the cold winter months, this might be a way to keep your skin hydrated and plump. Just don’t use your favourite pillowcase.
