This week has kicked off on a high note, with South African-born comedian Trevor Noah being interviewed by Oprah Winfrey as part of her SuperSoul Conversations live show at the Apollo Theater in New York. Also featured on that show were actors Salma Hayek and Jordan Peele.
Yep, you read that right… Oprah Winfrey! Trevor captioned the picture of him and the world’s favourite media veteran with a play on one of her most recognised phrases: ‘Look under your seat… It’s a dream come true!!!’
Trevor Noah’s Oprah interview is something we’re all delighted and inspired by, especially since the picture taken of Trevor and Oprah on the Apollo Theater stage looks so authentic – like two old friends catching up.
What’s even more inspiring is the fact that South Africans have already been rooting for Trevor for years, long before his Daywalker breakout. Since this political satirist’s move to the States, his career has taken off at lightning speed, from taking over from Jon Stewart as the host of The Daily Show on Comedy Central, to the worldwide success of his book, Born A Crime, which became a #1 New York Times best-seller.
Also, considering the fact that Trevor Noah regularly rubs shoulders with A-listers such as Lupita Nyong’o, Beyonce, Rihanna, Jim Carey, Jay Z, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Charlize Theron (to name just a few), it was only a matter of time before he sat across from Oprah too. ‘Oprah at the Apollo’ airs Tuesday 27 February.
