Last night, 27 May, South Africans watched in awe as the Miss South Africa 2018 host with the most Bonang Matheba was reunited with her first love – live TV presenting. The Sun Arena stage at Time Square, Pretoria was an apt celestial backdrop for live performances by local musos, the 12 Miss South Africa 2018 hopefuls, former pageant queens, and South Africa’s inimitable presenter Queen B. As expected, her role as elegant host of the crowning event was executed seamlessly, with unmatched class. And absolutely nothing could throw her off her A-game.

We love this Top Billing presenter not just because of her flawless talent; it’s also her sophisticated style rapport that captivates us every time she posts on social media or appears on a screen. And last night was no different, as Bonang defined four different couture moments – in three gowns by Fouad Sarkis Couture and one by Steven Khalil. Fouad Sarkis has dressed the likes of Tina (Knowles) Lawson and Tyra Banks, and Steven Khalil’s gowns have been worn by Kelly Rowland as well as E! Entertainment’s Giuliana Rancic. Now these two international designers can add a South African star to their client resume, as she paraded some their best work as the host of Miss SA 2018.
1. Fouad Sarkis Couture – Red
As someone who often wears this colour from head to toe, it’s not surprising that a red gown was one of B’s looks for the evening. As if the red masterpiece wasn’t enough of a statement, the finishing touch to this outfit was an Odd Commodities NY butterfly headpiece by Brittny Woods (yes, that’s the name behind Winnie Harlow’s headlining Met Gala headpiece).
2. Fouad Sarkis Couture – Blue
Bonang then graced the stage in a blue gown of a similar silhouette to the red dress, but with more cascading fabric and accessorised with matching standout earrings.
3. Fouad Sarkis Couture – Embellished
The look was all about details, details, details. The fabric, the belt, the train and the shoulder bow detail all made this fascinating creation worth every double tap on Instagram.
4. Steven Khalil – Black and gold
Black and gold are as impeccably matched as Bonang and a mic. That’s perhaps why this figure-flattering Steven Khalil dress was a social media favourite last night.
The combination of crowd-pleasing looks paraded by Bonang and the class she exudes proved that the Miss South Africa hosting gig was perfect for a celebrity like her, and of course, another dream come true for the TV star.
