We celebrated the annual Veuve Clicquot Masters Polo at Val de Vie Estate on Saturday 3 March – a not-to-be-missed social event that’s never short of glamour and A-listers. The scorching 35 degree temperatures did not compromise any planned looks, as attendees still managed to deliver and show off their interpretations of a ‘Cape Town summer’.

Marie Claire had the honour of picking the best-dressed woman, man, and couple of the day. A seemingly easy task, but given the calibre of high fashion seen under all those yellow and white umbrellas, this was difficult. Here are the winners, plus a roundup of amazing looks spotted on the day.

Best-dressed woman

Winner: Adeola Ariyo, who turned heads in this monochrome carnival-striped suit.

Best-dressed man

Winner: Zola Msizi was recognised as the most dapper gent at the polo, in his Millennial-pink, three-piece suit.

Best-dressed couple

Winner: Phumi and Neils’ striped, bold prints complemented each other’s outfits and made for a winning duo.

Plus more looks to which we gave the nod:

The host, Nomzamo Mbatha (who had four looks in total).

In a stunning figure-hugging Toju Foyeh dress.

In Amelia Warehouse by Fezile Ntuli. This maxi dress blowing in the wind is exactly what one would image a Cape Town summer to look and feel like.

Anika Noni Rose

Dressed by Wayman and Micah. Pleats, ultra-violet, and a vintage fascinator made this a look worth swooning over.

Boity Thulo

Dressed in all-white by House of Ole, a hat by Anita Ferreira, complete with a classic red lip, could anyone have been more polo-ready than Boity?

Jessica Nkosi

Another example of how you can never go wrong with silk, Jessica showed up in D’ORÉ Fashion dress and statement Steve Madden heels. Jaw-dropping is the word.

Norma Gigaba

Oozing opulence in this floor-length polka dot dress, Norma’s look definitely grabbed our attention for all the right reasons.

Hats that blew us away…

Jabu Dlamini-Qwesha

In a Crystal Birch hat – dramatic and regal at the same time.

Mmanaka

CMK by Mmanaka Classic Elegance. You know you’re friendship goals when you colour-block each others’ hats with such finesse.

Special mention must also be given to that shade of lipstick.

Cheers to a good day of polo, fashion, and flowing Veuve Clicquot champagne. See you next year!
